Obama Speaks in Berlin, McCain Focuses on Economic Issues at Home奥巴马柏林演讲 麦凯恩阵营回应 Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama spoke before tens of thousands of people in the German capital of Berlin Thursday, the most dramatic moment yet in his tour of the Middle East and Europe. Obama continues his European tour in Paris today Friday. His international trip has received worldwide attention and left his Republican opponent, Senator John McCain, searching for ways to get his message out. Senator Obama's speech had all the trappings of a presidential address, except for the fact that Obama won't even become the official Democratic nominee for president until next month. People of Berlin, people of the world," said Barack Obama. "This is our moment. This is our time."Obama's speech in Berlin was billed as a highlight of an international trip that has aly taken him to Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan and Israel, a sort of introductory world tour for a man who might become the next president of the ed States. We have made our share of mistakes, and there are times when our actions around the world have not lived up to our best intentions," he said. "But I also know how much I love America." Democrats hope the trip will bolster public confidence in Obama's ability to handle foreign policy and national security issues, an area where the public seems to have more confidence in Obama's Republican opponent, Senator John McCain. A statement from the McCain campaign said Obama took a premature victory lap in Berlin by proclaiming himself a citizen of the world, and it went on to say that the Republican candidate will continue to make his case to the American citizens who will decide the election. McCain was asked about the Obama speech during a campaign stop in Ohio. I would love to give a speech in Germany, a political speech or a speech that maybe the German people would be interested in," McCain said. "But I would much prefer to do it as President of the ed States." The Berlin speech was also an opportunity for Obama to outline his own worldview and the type of foreign policy he would pursue if he wins the White House in November. People of Berlin and people of the world, the scale of our challenge is great," said Obama. "The road ahead will be long. But I come before you to say that we are heirs to a struggle for freedom. We are a people of improbable hope with an eye towards future, with resolve in our heart. Let us remember this history, and answer our destiny and remake the world once again." Obama also made clear that human rights would be a top concern of his administration should he win the election."Will we extend our hand to the peoples in the forgotten corners of this world who yearn for lives marked by dignity and opportunity, security and justice? Will we lift the child in Bangladesh from poverty and shelter the refugee in Chad, and banish the scourge of AIDS in our time? Will we stand for the human rights of the dissident in Burma, the blogger in Iran or the voter in Zimbabwe? Will we give meaning to the words, never again in Darfur?" he asked.Obama's Republican opponent, Senator John McCain, opted for a low-key campaign day in Ohio, apparently figuring it would be difficult to compete with the images of Obama addressing a huge crowd in Berlin. The McCain campaign tried to focus on domestic issues as aide Nancy Pfotenhauer briefed reporters on the senator's plans to bring down high fuel prices, a key concern for voters in the latest public opinion polls. We want to bring your attention to the fact that Senator McCain is spending his time talking about how to solve the real problems that Americans are facing right now, most particularly today we are focused on the real problems that people are struggling with due to the high gas prices," she said. Republicans have also complained that the extensive news media coverage of the Obama trip has been unfair and has overshadowed McCain's efforts to focus on domestic economic issues. Meanwhile, the latest polls show the presidential race remains relatively close even with all the attention Obama is getting on his overseas trip. A new N News Wall Street Journal poll has Obama leading McCain 47 to 41 percent. But the survey also found that 55 percent saw Obama as the riskier choice in the election, compared with 35 percent who thought McCain was riskier. Recent polls in several key states, such as Colorado, Michigan and Minnesota also show McCain gaining on Obama. 200807/44837

There is nothing more American than a fall apple harvest. But you won't find these New York apples in your apple juice. Most apple juice contains concentrate from China and to a lesser degree from Brazil, Argentina and Chile. And that hamburger, American beef, mixed with trim from at least 16 different countries. B, wheat gluten from China and Europe. Kellogg's popular Nutri-Grain Cereal Bar contains ingredients from the US and at least 7 other countries. We are trying to manage this tremendous growth in imports without modernizing our food safety laws. And so in fact, we are really not checking the foods adequately. The Food and Drug Administration inspects just 1% of our imported food. There are fewer inspectors today than five years ago. Yet imports are exploding. According to the Agriculture Department, almost 15% of America's food is imported. 63 billion dollars worth last year from more than 175 countries. Many snacks and prepared meals contain ingredients from dozens of countries. The more process, the more opportunities there are for those cost-conscious processors to save a few bucks by sourcing an ingredient from one country as opposed to another country. This country imports some 14 billion dollars in fruits, vegetables in nets, up 53% in just the past few years. Snack food imports grew even more. Red meat imports jumpped 19%. We are always going to have a more globalized food source. We are going to be importing more products from across the world, because that's what consumers are demanding. He represents the big food companies, and says Americans want fruit year round. It's that consumer demand that will continue to drive food imports. But want to know where your food is from, you have to guess. Country of origin labeling is the law but it's been postponed until at least next year under pressure from industry.Christine Romans, CNN, New YorkNotes:Outsourcing: The procuring of services or products, such as the parts used in manufacturing a motor vehicle, from an outside supplier or manufacturer in order to cut costs.200807/43859

Let's briefly talk about (the) your wife, the junior senator from New York State. She now has another woman who is challenging her for the New York State, for her reelection, Jeanine Pirro. Listen to what she said: The Westchester County, a district attorney. Listen to this:Jeanine Pirro: When Hillary first came to New York and said she wanted to be a New Yorker, She asked us to put out the welcome mat, and New York did. But now she wants to use it as a doormat to the White House. Is Jeanine Pirro right?Jeanine Pirro is wrong. She...er... Hillary is... is not using any doormat and by the way she doesn't even have a Republican opponent yet. I don't know who the Republic is gonna nominate. I don't think you do. But I know one thing: she has been a great senator for New York. She serves with the Sanctions on the Arms Services Committee. She's been to the battle zones on more than one occasion. She's been a terrific senator for New York after 9.11, getting funds for the city to start again. She's gotten a large amount of money for working families to get health care for their kids. She's done amazing things on economic projects in upstate New York. And you know if had an opinion from my own, she would have voted 99% a time, she's been a senator. I think she still had ninety-seven and a half. So I'm really proud of the job she did as a senator. And according to all the surveys so are on New Yorkers, I think they know she's been a good senator. She has been a good senator for Republicans and independents and democrats and for every section of the state. And I think the people will support her service in the election next year. That's what I think is gonna happen.Yeah, you saw, perhaps, our recent CNN USA Today Gallup, a lot of democrats want her to run for the party's nomination in 2008. 46 percent registered democrats prefer her. Only 16 percent, ah, 41 %, excuse me, 16%for John Kerry, 15 % for John Edwards, 8 %for Joe Biden. She is the front-runner right now, isn't she?No, because she's not a candidate, and I don't know that she will be. We have a rule in our family, that I always follow and that she does. Don't look past the next election, or you might not get past the next election. So I am convinced in my own mind she hasn't decided on that. I believe I would know if she had. And I don't want her even think about that, I want her to focus on getting reelected and on doing a job as a senator. There'll be lots of time to think about that down the road. I just don't think she should do that.200707/15397

From her Oscar winning performance in Monster to her revolutionary mineworker in North Country, Charlize Theron is creating her own gallery of commanding and compelling women. But none like Aeon Flux, for the first time, she turns action star to bring a gravity-define animated gal heroine, animated cow heroine, I should say to the big screens. It's great to have her back with us, great pleasure to have you here.Thank you for having me.So this is set in 2415, 400 years from now, four hundred, ten years from now. So what's it like in 2415, just so I can be y. It's interesting, you know, a lot of how we get to 400 years in the future in this film. It's really taken from events in today's life. And I think it really reflects on the issues that we have to pay attention to today, because it could be very similar to, I think, what Bregna is. It deals with how we've become a population of only 5 million people on earth because of world hunger and coming up with you know, quick schemes to cure big diseases like these. And then realizing that, that, you, there isn't a quake thing you have to just kind of, pay attention to these things, otherwise we'll just die.I am somewhat sober about the fact that, you'd have 5 million people, cause that, I was worried, for instance, 400 years from now, is there baseball? No there's no baseball. yes, oh, you guys are so sad. Morning television shows? No, no that, no, noNone? Movies? No, no films. What? You are out of work. No, we will be under complete, um, utter government control. We'll be completely controlled. You actually led me to the clip here, which is, which is you threatening, or you've been, you are confronting the head of the last city on earth, who you think killed your parents, was responsible for the deaths of your parents, let's take a look. You killed my sister. I didn't know anything about it. I am sorry. And that excuses you? No, but this is a war, people on all sides die. She shouldn't , she had nothing to do with this. Everyone is involved in this. She wasn't. I don't need that to kill you. It would be easier, wouldn't it? What do you want from me?What I want? I want my sister back. I wanna remember what it feels like to be a person. Is it weird watching yourself with dark hair? It seems very strange and I would say it's a shock.I've, kind of, I've always kind of changed my hair colour, so it wasn't the first thing that I've done something like that. That's really dark though.(Yeah, but ) Did people treat you differently when you were...?En... not that I can tell, I mean it's very liberating, I think women should really, just really do something like that, every once in a while in their life. It's very liberating to kind of just, I remember the day I went to cut it all off when I was in training and it was, just really, it changes everything, I mean it, there were something about this haircut that made me feel like a warrior,(really?) and it's so helpful, yeah, I felt very strong and...So it gives you a different persona. Yeah, and the tights help too, you know. We've been looking at people doing stunts all morning long and extraordinary stunts that they did (amazing, yeah). Were you doing that stuff in the movie?Yeah, I got to do that move. You did?Yeah, the back, the monkey flip they call it and kept aware. You had ballet training?Yeah, I was trained as a ballerina for twelve years in my life, ballet and flamenco. And does that give you the skill that you are able to kick people like that? The angers are good reason to kick somebody(a good reason, but, yeah,), sounds about all you need. That takes you along as well. How much of it did you actually do? Because I know you were hurt during the movie though.Yeah, I've trained for about 3 months, a little over 3 months with just think incredible group of people. And I think that was the greatest gift that I got out of this film, to receive all these great tools, all of a sudden, just having this incredible staff of people around you who just dedicate themselves to you. And listen to you whining and moaning every single day because you're in pain, and still kind of believing you and they really kind of pushed me which is really incredible, really a great gift. Well, I am dismayed by the fact that there is no baseball 410 years from now. But other than that ,this sounds quite good. Aeon Flux is in theatre this Friday, December, 2nd, 2005. By the way, I saw you e to say in every interview with somebody you don't know. It is like a blind date. Do you normally date guys who've been married for 37 years? If they wear tights, I'll go there...oh, or D, thank, thank you, it's interesting. Nice to have you and all the best.Thank you. 200808/45319
